Did you know that the harmonica has been around for centuries, yet it's one of the most underappreciated instruments out there? It's true. While ...
Harmonica sets are a good way to save and bundle once you know which model you like. They typically come in the most useful keys. Hohner harmonica sets are pre-made at the factory so unfortunately the keys included are what you get and can not be swapped for other keys (as we get asked all the time). On another hand, Seydel and Harmo harmonica sets can be easily customised with your keys of choice.
Hohner is the oldest Harmonica manufacturer and the most established one. Hohner started making harmonicas in 1857 in Trossingen Germany when its founder Matthias Hohner a clockmaker by craft decided to start a local family business that will quickly expand to the United States at the end of the 19th century becoming the first harmonica manufacturer to produce and sell over One million harmonicas. To this day most Hohner harmonica models are still made in Trossingen.
Harmonicaland carries all the major quality made in German models by Hohner such as the Special 20, Golden Melody, Rocket, Marine Band 1896, Marine Band Deluxe, Crossover, Thunderbird, Rocket low, Hohner Blues band, Big river, Rocket amp, Pro Harp, Penta Harp, Juke Blues, Blues Harp, and Meisterklasse.
The most popular models like the Hohner Blues Harp, Hohner Special 20, Hohner Rocket, and Hohner Marine Band classic 1896 come in sets of 3 and 5 harmonicas bundled together. When you start playing the diatonic harmonica - also commonly called mouth organ and blues harp - you will need to purchase several harmonicas in order to play in the most popular keys. The diatonic harmonica is designed to play easily in one or two keys so in order to play in more than two keys you need to purchase more harmonicas.
For instance, with a C harmonica, most players will play a song in C or G, sometimes D. That’s where Harmonica sets come in handy for the beginner and any harmonica player building a set of harps.
The Blues harp has a warm tone perfect for Folk music and Blues. Hohner makes a set of 3 in the Hohner Blues Harp pro pack. It includes a harmonica in the key of C, G, and A. That allows you to play folk songs and Blues tunes in C, G, G, D, A, and E.
The Special 20 is made of a black plastic comb, brass reeds, and stainless steel covers. It is 10.2 centimeters / 4 inches long. It is recommended for amplified blues and rock harmonica playing. It’s also been used extensively by country harmonica players like Charlie McCoy and rock player John Popper (from Blues Traveler)
